Brother’s Keeper is Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.’s national program dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for Brothers, their spouses, widows, and vulnerable community members by promoting dignity, independence, and care for those in need. The program focuses on assisting elders, retirees, individuals with disabilities, and those facing health challenges, ensuring their lives and homes remain functional.

At the Iota Mu Lambda Chapter, Brother’s Keeper is more than a national initiative—it is a cornerstone of our commitment to Brotherhood and service. Our chapter actively fulfills the program’s objectives by prioritizing the well-being of our Brothers and their families, as well as vulnerable community members in the Tacoma/Greater Pierce County area.

To achieve its mission, Brother’s Keeper focuses on seven key objectives:

Maintaining safe and functional living environments for participants.
Assisting with the upkeep of homes and properties.
Supporting participants in making informed health care decisions.
Offering companionship to reduce isolation.
Facilitating access to legal services.
Providing transportation for medical appointments and other essential activities.
Ensuring adequate supplies of food, water, and clothing, with a special emphasis on disaster management and recovery.

The Iota Mu Lambda Chapter goes above and beyond to meet these objectives by organizing regular wellness check-ins for elder and retired Brothers, ensuring their needs are addressed and their voices valued. Upon request, we assist with home maintenance and repairs (within our capabilities), helping participants sustain safe and functional living environments. We also respond promptly to requests for transportation, enabling participants to attend medical appointments, chapter events, and other essential engagements—ensuring no Brother or family member feels disconnected or unsupported.

In collaboration with local organizations, we strategically utilize resources to provide critical supplies, such as food and emergency provisions, particularly during crises or natural disasters. Our chapter members often draw from their professional expertise to assist with legal and healthcare planning, empowering participants to make well-informed decisions. Additionally, regular outreach and companionship initiatives strengthen a sense of belonging and connection among members and their families.

Through these concerted efforts, the Iota Mu Lambda Chapter proudly exemplifies the essence of the Brother’s Keeper Program, ensuring that no Brother, spouse, widow, or community member is left behind. Together, we uphold the enduring values of care, service, and Brotherhood that define Alpha Phi Alpha’s mission.
